Dubai Hit by Unprecedented Flash Flooding

Years' Worth of Rain Unleashes Chaos

Roads Turn into Rivers, Homes Inundated

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – A year's worth of rain descended upon Dubai on Tuesday, unleashing immense flash flooding that turned roads into rivers and inundated homes. The city-state was hit by an astonishing 120mm (47 inches) of rain, submerging streets and disrupting life for residents.

Heavy downpours began shortly after midnight, accompanied by thunder and lightning that awakened the city's inhabitants. The deluge overwhelmed the city's drainage system, causing widespread flooding in multiple areas. Roads, including major thoroughfares, were impassable, with vehicles stranded in deep water.

Homes and businesses were not spared from the deluge. Rushing water entered residences, damaging furniture and belongings. Shopping malls were also affected, forcing temporary closures due to flooding.

The severity of the flooding briefly halted operations at Dubai International Airport, one of the world's busiest aviation hubs. Arrival flights were diverted to other airports as the tarmac was inundated with water.

Authorities have responded to the crisis, deploying emergency services to assist residents and clear flooded areas. However, the full extent of the damage and the impact on the city's infrastructure are yet to be assessed.
